Have No Fear

I heard a sermon the other day, it was an awesome sermon because the pastor pointed out a common terror many Christians face. It was something I thought was important enough to put on The Rebel Christian. Something that keeps good people from being great and keeps talented people from reaching their full potential. What is this horrifying thing that causes Bible believing Christians to cower?

Fear.

What is fear? According to Google, its an unpleasant feeling which derives from the belief that something or someone is dangerous or harmful. That sounds sensible, to an extent, fear keeps us in line. Fear of prison keeps us from breaking the law. Fear of death keeps us from taking unnecessary risks. Fear of wild animals keeps us living in colonized cities, states, and so on…

It seems like fear is good, until you let it take over.

Fear of failure can keep you from trying.

Fear of rejection can keep you from ever finding love.

Fear of disappointment can keep you from broadening your horizons.

Fear can be bad and for most Christians, it is.

We are supposed to have fear, the fear of God. But we are not supposed to have a spirit of fear. Some might say, but how? How can you not live in fear in the world we face today?

According to statistics, a woman is raped every 100 seconds in the US alone. Every 48 hours someone is mowed down by a drunk driver. Every day someone is murdered because of senselessness. It’s a scary world out there. So how can we live without fear?

Easy, follow this scripture.

“Fear thou not; for I am with thee: be not dismayed; for I am thy God: I will strengthen thee; yea, I will help thee; yea, I will uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousness.” Isaiah 41:10 KJV

I realize this scripture may not satisfy some readers because it’s too simple. The key to not having fear is to simply ‘fear not’. Oh great…easier said than done, I know. It’s like telling someone not to worry—that generally has the opposite effect. Don’t fear for your future, don’t fear for your marriage, don’t fear for your finances, don’t fear for your health. Those are the essentials to life, how can you not fear? How can you not worry?

Let’s look at it this way.

The Bible tells us not to fear, therefore, having unnecessary fear is not of God. Which means fear is, in essence, a sin.

When you have fear you aren’t trusting in the Lord.

You might argue against that but let me break it down.

Fear only comes about when you recognize there is a chance you will be defeated. So when you fear, you’re saying that God can’t handle the situation.

Ask yourself, how many people fear mosquitoes? Granted, some mosquitoes carry deadly diseases with them, you can get itchy from their bites, or even pass infections through them so some may have a legitimate reason to fear them. But put that aside and ask yourself, have you ever seen anyone running for the hills because a mosquito zipped by?

No, you haven’t. And I won’t believe you if you say you have.

People generally don’t fear mosquitoes because they’re so small. They are no match for a human being, they can be crushed with your pinky finger. In other words, they could never defeat you.

That’s how God sees your enemies and difficult situations. Nothing can defeat Him because He is the Almighty. So when you begin to experience fear or worry in your predicament, you’re saying that this situation can defeat God. This situation cannot be handled by the Almighty, its bigger than Him. That’s what you’re saying. Because fear only surfaces when you acknowledge the possibility of defeat. When you know in your heart that you can’t be defeated, the world is good. Life’s amazing and you’re on cloud nine.

That’s how Christians should always be, why? Because God is always with us. You shouldn’t feel fear, no matter how dark your situation becomes.

Psalms 23:4 KJV says “Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.”

That means have no fear…period. That means you are a child of the Most High God, nothing can defeat you because God is fighting for you. Nothing can overtake you because Jesus Christ has covered you in his precious blood. You can storm the gates of hell with a popsicle and walk out victorious. Stop having fear because God didn’t give you the spirit of fear!

II Timothy 1:7 KJV “For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.”

No matter what you are going through, have no fear. God’s got your back.
