Scariton: A Josh Adventure
This is a big adventure coming from a rather small boy. I don’t think its accurate to say that everything happens fast in this book but the pace is not at all slow and if you don’t read carefully then you’ll easily miss some of the witty but important details of the story.
Josh is a young man who wants more from his boring summer vacation. He’s been holed up because of severe thunder storms so when the weather finally clears, he makes sure to make the most of it. Unfortunately, he quickly gets in way over his head. From leprechauns, to wizards, and pretty princesses, Josh finds so much more than an adventure.
What I loved about this story was that it’s something I could definitely see parents enjoying just as much as their children. I definitely got into the plot and couldn’t help but fall for the interesting cast. The characters, most of which were very young, were all believable and acted their age—even in their unique circumstances. I can see plenty of kids picking this up and dreaming of all the wild adventures, maybe even thinking up some of their own.
For a children’s story, the writing was good but I still wished it could have been a little better. I wanted more facial expressions and emotions but I might simply be a picky reader. I honestly don’t have any serious complaints about the story, although I do think that A LOT happened in the pages and that its somewhat of a long story for a book that’s intended for readers between the ages of 8 and 12. But that doesn’t mean the story wasn’t good. This will provide a great read to any person at any age. I think it’s one of those books that the entire family will enjoy.
If you like adventures and stories with characters you’ll learn to love and cherish then this will be the book for you. You will love the adventures, the action, and the cast altogether. It won’t be difficult to finish this book at all.
