Prophecy

This is a really good book. It’s a very well put-together story of adventure, battle, and even a little bit of love.
The story centers on Jard, a young man who would do anything to protect his precious little sister. He’s a hard worker, taking care of his sis while they pretty much manage to live on their own. Unfortunately for Jard, his loving, sweet sister has been accused of stealing a very important relic that pretty much provides the adventure for the rest of the story.
Since Arana has been accused of stealing what’s called the ‘Dragoncrystal’ there has been a bounty placed on her head and everyone Jard knows (and doesn’t know) wants to get their hands on his sister now because of that. Jard tries to protect his sister by getting them out of the city but trouble only continues to grow as mysteries are revealed, questions are answered, but only to be replaced by more unsolved problems.
What I liked most about this book was the characterization. It was very, very good. Jard was by far my favorite but I didn’t mind his sister. She was sweet and believable but she could have easily become very annoying. I’m just glad her innocence wasn’t overplayed because she teetered a little bit on annoying and likeable but that’s only because Jard was very overprotective.
There was some humor in this book and it fit in well with the story. The overall structure of the book was really great but sometimes the flow wasn’t as smooth as it could have been. The scenes changed very quickly to the point where it felt like the characters were hopping from location to location. An easier transition would have been much appreciated but it was still a really good book.
I also really liked the feel of this book. It’s a mix of adventure and fantasy but more on the knight and sword style not the wizards and magic. It made the book feel like a classic read with a few extra twists and turns.
I would recommend this book to those who are fans of fantasy and adventure. Anyone with an old school taste for kingdoms, knights, and long traveled journeys should grab a copy of this quick.
