Tura The Traveler: Lineage Series Book II

I had the pleasure of reading and reviewing the first book in this series on The Rebel Christian a while back. I remember being taken to a fantasy world by a lost princess and setting off on an amazing adventure. In fact, my only complaint about the first novel was the title of the book, haha!

I have to admit, I was really nervous about reading this book because it takes place so far into the future after the first installment. I don’t like books that pick up exactly where the last book left off—with no time passing in between—but I also don’t really enjoy books that pick up the story hundreds of years later. So, I had a lot of hesitation when I first took a look at the book; but I’m pleasantly surprised to say it was a very good read!

While the times have changed in this book, Frerking’s writing has not. She delivers another strong cast and story with plenty of references to the first installment to make a strong connection and bridge between the first and second books. I don’t think you have to have read the first book to totally enjoy this one, but it will definitely feel nostalgic to read through this piece with the first installment in mind.

It took me a little bit of time to really connect with the new set of characters but once you’re able to get used to the new setting and cast, you’ll really enjoy seeing Frerking’s world through Tura’s eyes. Trouble is brewing, and Tura is the one for the job, but she finds herself between a rock and a hard place when she has to choose between helping companions or continuing on her own journey.

In many ways it felt like this book would be open and shut. The premise seemed simple and straightforward—a typical good versus evil sort of fantasy novel. But as you go through the pages you can see the twists and turns unfolding and the story developing in every chapter. The entire book comes together very well and really molds Tura into a likeable and relatable protagonist. In the end, I think this will be a wonderful book to read for any audience.

Young fantasy readers will certainly appreciate this more than others but anyone with a heart for adventure and a love of elves and tragedy and war will love this.
