Walk in the Flesh

This is one of the few books I’ve read with a cover that really relates to the story. I mean there’s a cyborg as the main character—you can’t get a better cover than the one this book has right now.
I don’t mean to spoil things for other reads but the plot is very interesting. It reminds me of a futuristic version of that old show, 24. There’s terrorists, twisting plots, deceiving lies, and good action. The main character is scarred from an attack that leaves his spouse dead. Naturally, he vows revenge, and he’s actually given the chance to get it.
Protagonist Neil remains the bitter, angry person he was before but after being given the choice to die or become a robotic killing machine, Neil is turned into a bitter, angry, justified killer.
The plot is layered thick and the characters are well developed. Walk in the Flesh has many different levels which clearly demonstrates the finesse of a seasoned author. This thriller reads like a classic, opening with a heart-pounding scene detailing one of Neil’s first kills. It goes on to take readers through chases, fights, and many more deaths.
What I liked about Walk in the Flesh was the fresh originality it contained mixed with the common theme of kill or be killed. This is probably the first book I’ve read where the protagonist was absolutely ruthless but I loved it! I don’t know if that says more about me or Bailey but I like it nonetheless. I’ll admit, when I first realized the book was about a guy being turned into a cyborg I had to do a double take but I’m glad I stuck it out.
The writing is actually pretty good in this book. You can tell Bailey knows what he’s doing right from the start, I don’t know many authors bold enough to start off their novel with the sound of a man’s neck breaking but it works so perfectly and so powerfully. The authorship is something that just draws you in, you can feel the passion of the writer behind every word and between each line. Walk in the Flesh is wildly creative and spectacularly delivered.
The title of the book itself is something to speak of. The cover tells you exactly what this book is going to be about but ‘Walk in the Flesh’ is almost a play on words. It sounds more like a joke when you think about it, here we have a very human man experiencing very human emotions and having the very human instinct to gain revenge. But that individual is then turned into something very unhuman. There’s definitely some underlying psychological message in this story.
All in all, I’d say Walk in the Flesh was an awesome success. I enjoyed every word—despite not being a fan of sci-fi. I was pleasantly thrilled by this horror masterpiece.
I would recommend this book to readers looking for a good new thrill. Its got suspense, action, great characters, and a well-structured and developed plot. Fans of sci-fi and futuristic reads will want to grab a copy immediately. You won’t be disappointed with this book
